About the Southern District of Georgia

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, created in 1848, has jurisdiction over the following counties in Georgia: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Brantley, Bryan, Bulloch, Burke, Camden, Candler, Charlton, Chatham, Coffee, Columbia, Dodge, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Glascock, Glynn, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Laurens, Liberty, Lincoln, Long, McDuffie, McIntosh, Montgomery, Pierce, Richmond, Screven, Taliaferro, Tattnall, Telfair, Toombs, Treutlen, Ware, Warren, Wayne, Wheeler, and Wilkes.

The Southern District of Georgia Court currently has four United States District Judges and three United States Magistrate Judges.

The S.D. Ga. is organized into six divisions: the Augusta Division, the Brunswick Division, the Dublin Division, the Savannah Division, the Statesboro Division, and the Waycross Division. The Augusta Division includes Burke, Columbia, Glascock, Jefferson, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Taliaferro, Warren, and Wilkes counties. The Brunswick Division serves Appling, Camden, Glynn, Jeff Davis, Long, Mcintosh, and Wayne counties. The Dublin Division covers Dodge, Johnson, Laurens, Montgomery, Telfair, Treutlen, and Wheeler counties. The Savannah Division includes Brayn, Chatham, Effingham, and Liberty counties. The Statesboro Division serves Bulloch, Candler, Emanuel, Evans, Jenkins, Screven, Tattnall, and Toombs counties. The Waycross Division covers Atkinson, Bacon, Brantley, Charlton, Coffee, Pierce, and Ware counties.

Chief District Judge

U.S. Attorney

The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia is Jill E. Steinberg, who has spent most of her career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and Deputy Criminal Chief in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia.
